Traditional pet feeders dispense food. Riko transforms it into a fresh, hydrated meal.
Designed to work with freeze-dried food, Riko grinds and rehydrates each meal at feeding time—bringing more moisture and a fresh-made experience to every bowl.
Why Freeze-Dried Food?
The right food makes better rehydration possible.
Freeze-dried food offers a unique balance of nutrition, storage convenience, and rehydration performance, making it an ideal match for Riko—a wet food cat feeder designed to prepare fresh, moisture-rich meals.
Not sure if your cat will like rehydrated food? Try this simple test at home.
Crush a small amount of your cat’s current food and mix it with warm water. If your cat enjoys the texture and flavor, they may be more likely to enjoy the fresh, hydrated meals prepared by Riko.
Built for Better Feeding
From freeze-dried food to a freshly prepared meal.
From personalized hydration to precise portions, Riko takes care of the process—grinding, hydrating, and serving each meal fresh, while making everyday feeding smarter and easier.
Works with the Freeze-dried Food You Already Trust
Riko fits easily into your existing feeding routine. Simply add your cat’s favorite freeze-dried food, and Riko automatically grinds and rehydrates each portion with water before serving—turning it into a fresh, moist meal without the need for daily meal prep.
Tailored Hydration for Every Cat
With an adjustable water-to-food ratio from 1:1 to 1:5, Riko lets you customize each meal to your cat’s preferences—from thicker, pâté-like blends to softer, more hydrated bites. A water-only mode also lets you dispense water separately when needed.
Large Supplies, Less Refilling
The 1.1 lb food container and 80 oz water tank mean fewer refills and less daily preparation. A desiccant pack and silicone seal help keep food dry and protected, giving you one less thing to worry about when you’re busy or away.
20+ Meals a Day
As a wet food automatic feeder designed for compatible freeze-dried food, Riko lets you divide your cat’s daily intake into 20+ smaller portions. Set the feeding times and portion sizes to suit your cat’s routine, and Riko automatically prepares and serves every meal—even when you’re not at home.

Wet food is significantly better for the kidneys and bladder of cats. Since a lot of cats don't drink enough water, it's great that this gadget can easily add essential hydration to their daily diet.

Now some estimate that in the wild, cats can actually eat somewhere from 8 to 12 small meals daily. Instead of putting down a large meal and hoping for the best, this feeder can provide smaller portions throughout the day. That aligns much more closely with how cats naturally eat.

One unexpected benefit showed up while I was editing this review. I ended up spending a day in bed with a severe migraine, and I was able to use the app to make sure my cats were fed right from my phone.

I love that it's giving him much fresher food and a lot more liquid intake than he would drink on his own.

Riko is Neakasa’s Fresh-Made Automatic Cat Feeder, designed to turn compatible freeze-dried food into ready-to-eat wet meals at feeding time.
How is Riko different from a regular feeder?
Most automatic pet feeders simply dispense food. Riko is designed to upgrade the meal itself by turning freeze-dried food into moisture-rich wet meals.
Can Riko dispense only water or food without rehydrating it?
Yes. Riko offers three feeding modes:
Mix: Grinds dry food and adds water to prepare a rehydrated meal.
Water Only: Dispenses water without food—no need to empty the food container.
Food Only: Grinds and dispenses dry food without adding water.
Many cats do not get enough water from drinking alone. Feeding wet meals is one practical way to help increase daily water intake.
How is Riko different from other wet food dispensers?
Most wet food dispensers are still just small fridges for pre-made food. Riko takes a different path by making wet meals from freeze-dried food at feeding time instead of storing them cold.
Why does Riko start with freeze-dried food?
Freeze-dried offers a better base than dry food, while being easier to store and portion than canned wet food. It helps make wetter meals more practical in daily life.
Does Riko work with different freeze-dried foods?
That’s the goal. Riko is being designed to work with a wide range of freeze-dried foods, so you can keep using the food your pet already knows and loves. The app will also support popular freeze-dried brands with feeding guidance. For best compatibility, individual pieces should be no larger than 15 × 15 × 25 mm (about 0.6 × 0.6 × 1.0 in).
If Riko will be your pet’s primary feeding method, we recommend using complete and balanced freeze-dried food, not freeze-dried treats.
Does Riko heat the water for rehydration?
No. Riko uses room-temperature water. We explored heated water early on, but it would have made the system more complex and much more power-hungry. Instead, Riko improves room-temperature rehydration by grinding the freeze-dried food into smaller pieces and allowing time for soaking after spraying.
Can I use dry kibble instead of freeze-dried food?
In theory, it may be possible, but we do not recommend it. Riko is designed around freeze-dried food and works best when used as intended.
Can I adjust the water-to-food ratio?
Yes. Riko supports adjustable 1:1 to 5:1 water-to-food ratios to match different pets, textures, and feeding needs.
What if I’m not sure my cat will accept this kind of food?
If you’re already feeding freeze-dried food with manual rehydration, this is usually less of a concern.
If your cat hasn’t tried rehydrated freeze-dried food before, we recommend starting with a small test portion first. You can crush the freeze-dried food with a metal spoon, add water, let it soak for 10–15 minutes, and see how your cat responds. From there, you can try different freeze-dried recipes and water-to-food ratios to find what your cat prefers.
How many meals can I schedule per day?
Riko supports 20+ meals a day with portions from 0.04–0.7 oz (1–20 g), making it easier to serve smaller, more frequent meals when needed.
Will food stay fresh inside the machine?
Riko is designed to help keep freeze-dried food dry and protected inside the machine, with an airtight lid, a self-sealing grinder, and built-in desiccant support.
Is Riko easy to clean?
Yes. Easy cleaning was a key design priority. The main unit includes two stainless steel bowls for rotation, the Riko Everyday Set adds an extra bowl set, and any part that is likely to get messy is removable for simple daily cleaning.
What does the battery do?
The battery allows cordless use for up to 7 days and also works as backup power during outages, so feeding can stay on track even when you’re away.
Can I leave Riko unattended for several days?
Riko’s food and water capacity can theoretically support up to 10 days of automatic feeding, but this depends on your cat’s actual meal size and schedule. We recommend observing your cat’s routine first and making sure meals are finished, since leftover wet food should not be left sitting in the bowl.
Is Riko only for cats?
Riko is designed primarily for cats, especially because many cats need more support around hydration. That said, small dogs can use Riko too.

So far riko has been working well and no big issues. I do wish the amount per serving could be a bit more so there does not have to be so many feedings in a day. I do appreciate the level of detail. I REALLY REALLY REALLYYYYY would like a button for retracting the bowl. I saw during the kickstarter that there was an RFID door option to add but I didn’t see that as an option when purchasing. But it would nice to add on. I would like the freshness threshold to be more adjustable. I know it is a safety thing but more fine adjustments would be helpful. Also an integrated camera would be really amazing to be able to check in and see how things are. Thank you!
Picky eater approved! My cat is going on 20 years old and has a difficult time cleaning her teeth to get larger shreds or chunks out. She also refuses to eat if it’s been sitting out for more than 20 minutes. This was the perfect solution. We don’t even utilize the schedule function, any time she wants to eat we just hit feed now and she waits patiently for it to finish. It only dispenses 20 grams at a time so we feed her when she’s hungry but you can adjust for bigger portions and change the ratio of water to food for the perfect consistency your pet will love. One warning to other pet parents, the machine takes time to grind and wet the food down but once it’s done it waits an additional 5 minutes before swiveling the bowl to your pet. This is to ensure the food properly rehydrates and your cat gets pate not puddles of water with dry food crumbles in it. It’s kind of funny to watch actually but I know there are cats out there that simply can not endure the wait. But she loooooves it AND the bin and grinder come out so you can wash them which is fantastic I hate wiping down the more traditional style robo feeders because it never feels fully clean. 5 stars, 100% worth the money.
I have a cat grazer. She is a picky eater and doesn't like most dry foods. She ends up wasting much of her canned food because it sits out all day, and I don't have time to prepare fresh canned food 4-6 times a day. The Neakasa has allowed me to portion out the 200 calories she needs across 6 meals spread throughout the day. No more wasted food. The Neakasa does all the rest. Once I enter the food, it lets me know how many grams she needs based on the type of food I am using. It is neat too!!
I am genuinely surprised by how much I like this feeder. My cats eat freeze-dried food, but there is one problem: none of them will touch it once it's rehydrated. They like it dry and crumbled, either by itself or sprinkled over other food. Since this feeder is marketed primarily around turning freeze-dried food into freshly rehydrated meals, I wasn't sure it was going to work for us.
It turns out that it absolutely does.
One of my favorite things about the Riko is that you do not have to add water to the food. I can schedule a portion of dry freeze-dried food, and the machine grinds it and dispenses it into the bowl without rehydrating it. It comes out in sort of a little donut shape, nicely crumbled and ready to eat. One of my cats especially loves freeze-dried food this way, and I currently have the Riko scheduled to feed it twice a day. The other cats will eat it as well, but not as their main food as the one cat does.
Of course, I did try the rehydration feature first. The app allows you to select different food-to-water ratios, so there is quite a bit of control over the consistency. Unfortunately, my cats remained completely unimpressed with my attempt to improve their hydration. That's a cat problem, not a Riko problem. I have water fountains throughout the house that they happily use, so I've accepted defeat and let them have their freeze-dried food the way they like it.
The app gives you a lot of control over the feeder. You can set feeding times, portion sizes and food-to-water ratios, as well as view feeding information. Scheduling has worked very reliably for me. When I tell it to feed at 5:00, it feeds at 5:00.
There is also a Freshness feature that I initially didn't understand. I noticed that after dry food had been sitting in the bowl for a while, the machine would suddenly retract it, add water and put it back out. After exploring the app, I discovered what was happening. With Freshness enabled, the machine has an observation period and, if food remains after about an hour, it can add water to it. If the food is still there later, the bowl is eventually retracted because the machine considers the rehydrated food too old to leave available.
That's actually a very clever feature if your cat eats rehydrated food. Mine don't, so adding water to leftovers pretty much guaranteed they would become permanent leftovers. I simply disabled Freshness in the app. Now their food remains dry and available for them to come back to when they want it. I really appreciate that Neakasa gives you that choice rather than forcing one feeding method.
The food reservoir is a nice size, especially considering that the machine itself is smaller than I expected. There is also a desiccant bag to help keep the food dry, with a color indicator to let you know when it needs to be replaced. The water reservoir is quite large as well if you're using the hydration features.
I also like the overall design. It looks very streamlined, and when the bowl is retracted it has a surprisingly small footprint for everything that's going on inside it. The removable stainless steel bowl is another plus, and two bowls are included so you can swap one out while the other is being cleaned.
It does make some noise while it's operating. You're not going to mistake it for a silent gravity feeder. The first few times it ran, all of my cats stopped what they were doing and stood there staring at it, trying to figure out what this strange new machine was doing. However, I wouldn't call the noise annoyingly loud.
It also plays a little musical sound as the feeding process finishes. My cats figured that one out remarkably quickly. Now when they hear the machine operating and the melody, they know food is coming and approach the feeder when it's finished. Apparently I've accidentally created a tiny feline dinner bell.
Another feature I really appreciate is the backup battery. According to the manufacturer, it can keep the feeder operating for up to seven days during a power outage. For an automatic feeder, having backup power gives me considerably more confidence in relying on scheduled meals.
Pros:
Can dispense freeze-dried food dry or rehydrated
Multiple food-to-water ratios for cats who prefer rehydrated meals
Flexible scheduling and portion control through the app
Reliable feeding schedule in my experience
Large food and water reservoirs without an excessively large footprint
Desiccant system helps keep stored food dry
Freshness feature manages food left sitting in the bowl
Freshness can be disabled if you want dry food to remain available
Two removable stainless steel bowls are included
Backup battery provides protection during power outages
Cats quickly learned the feeding sounds and routine
Attractive, streamlined design
Cons:
It isn't silent while grinding and preparing food
There is a bit of a learning curve because quite a few settings are controlled through the app
It's expensive, this is definitely a premium automatic feeder
The price is probably my biggest hesitation. This is not an inexpensive way to feed a cat. However, after actually living with it and learning everything it can do, I understand the price better than I did initially. This isn't simply an automatic dispenser. It portions the food, processes it, can rehydrate it to different consistencies, manages freshness, follows a schedule, provides app control and can continue operating during a power outage.
Most importantly for me, the rehydration feature is optional. That's the feature I think could easily be missed when looking at the product page. If your cat loves rehydrated freeze-dried food, you can take advantage of everything Riko was primarily designed to do. If your cat is like mine and considers adding water to perfectly good freeze-dried food an unforgivable offense, the Riko can still be a very useful automatic feeder.
I've been using it long enough now to get past the novelty and see how it fits into our normal routine, and I'm impressed. It's well designed, reliable so far, highly customizable, and my cats have accepted it surprisingly quickly. I expected to find this interesting. I didn't expect to like it this much.
Overall, I really like the Neakasa Riko and think it’s a great product. It’s convenient and has made feeding my cats easier, but the software is still pretty buggy. At the moment, it requires some babysitting, so I’m not completely comfortable relying on it while I’m away. Once the software issues are fixed, I could definitely see myself rating it higher.
This is a much more substantial machine than I was expecting. It has some weight to it and feels more like a small appliance than a typical automatic pet feeder. It was extremely well packaged in thick molded inserts, and the different compartments were secured and sealed when it arrived.
The overall construction feels solid and the design is really nice. It comes with stainless steel bowls and everything is incorporated into one unit, so even with everything this feeder is designed to do, it doesn’t feel like a bunch of separate pieces you have to put together.
What really interested me about this one is that it isn’t just another automatic feeder that dumps dry kibble into a bowl. It’s designed to make fresh rehydrated meals in small controlled portions, so you’re getting the convenience of scheduled feeding while also adding water to the food for additional hydration. That’s a really cool concept, especially for cats.
I haven’t put food through it yet, so I can’t fairly comment on portion accuracy, long-term reliability, the app, or how well the dispensing system performs. I don’t want to rate features I haven’t personally tested. What I can say is that the packaging, construction and overall quality made an excellent first impression. I’ll update my review once it’s been put through regular use.
This is a very good cat feeder and has been really helpful for preparing meals for my cats. I especially like the fresh-made meal feature because it makes it much easier to turn dry food into a wet meal without having to prepare everything by hand each time.
I think this is especially useful when you have senior cats or cats that need extra care with their meals. Preparing the right texture and consistency for them can take a lot of time, and this machine makes the process much more convenient. The automatic feeding schedule is also helpful for keeping meals on a regular routine.
The built-in 2500mAh battery is another nice feature because it can keep the feeder running during a power outage. Overall, this feeder saves me a lot of time and makes preparing wet meals much easier. It’s a very useful product for anyone who wants to make fresh meals for their cats without spending so much time preparing each meal.
The Neakasa Riko Fresh-Made wet meal cat feeder is such a clever solution for cats that eat wet food on a schedule. What really stands out is the ability to have fresh meals dispensed automatically, rather than relying on a traditional feeder that simply leaves food sitting out.
I especially like the convenience of being able to portion meals ahead of time and have the feeder handle the timing. It’s incredibly helpful when you’re busy, away from home for part of the day, or simply trying to maintain a consistent feeding routine.
The battery-powered design is another feature I appreciate because it gives you more flexibility about where you can place the feeder without being tied to an outlet. The white finish also has a clean, modern look that fits nicely into a home environment.
For anyone feeding wet food, the fresh-meal concept is what makes this feeder particularly interesting. It’s designed around the idea of providing meals when they’re needed rather than having a bowl of wet food sitting out all day.
Overall, this is a very convenient and thoughtfully designed option for wet-food feeding. The fresh-meal dispensing concept, automatic scheduling, battery operation, and clean appearance make it a useful addition to a cat household. ?????
